Here’s the Basics
Born & raised in West Des Moines, Iowa. My mom is a piano teacher and my dad retired after a long career with the State of Iowa. I have a younger brother who is a computer engineer for Dish Network in Denver.
I attended Valley High School until 1982 and began my college career at Des Moines Area Community College. I transferred to the University of Northern Iowa where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
I met and married an amazing woman named Kelli and we celebrated 20 years of marriage last year.

We are the proud parents of 2 boys, Zach (17) & Seth (12). As you can see from the pictures, I have been blessed abundantly.

Beyond the Basics
I love spending time with my family on regular summer trips, time at the lake, coaching baseball & basketball, watching the Chiefs & Royals and playing Rock Band or Wii bowling from time to time. Whether we’re out shopping, playing a game or just hanging out around the house the time I spend with my family is priceless.
I love music. There’s not much that I don’t like. I also play music and have various levels of ability on the following instruments: guitar, bass guitar, piano & drums. My favorite composer is Frank Zappa. I firmly believe that 100 years from now he will be considered along with other late 19th century and early 20th century greats like Gershwin, Stravinsky, Copeland & Bernstein. Everyone knows him now because of Valley Girl and Yellow Snow. He’ll be remembered a century from now for Yellow Shark.
I am a car nut, my favorites being American muscle cars. The 1968 Shelby 500KR Mustang Convertible tops my list of dream cars. The 1968 GT 500-KR had a newly designed 428 Cobra Jet that was rated at a suspiciously low 335 HP and a blistering 440 foot pounds of torque at 3400 RPM. The Shelby had diecast aluminum Cobra rocker covers, fiberglass nose panels and hood with working scoops and air-extraction vents, decorative bodyside intakes, and a spoilered tail with sequential tail lights. This vehicle was a monster. Base price in 1968 was $4500. The car pictured has 54,000 original miles and recent sold at auction for a quarter of a million dollars. Someday if I have an extra two hundred grand laying around I might get one.
Finally, and most importantly, I am a Christian. I love God. I am thankful that He loved me enough to send his Son to die for my sins. I am always happy to share my faith, but I don’t believe you will win people to Christ by beating them over the head with the Bible. Christ’s message to us is one of love and forgiveness, not guilt and wrath.
I enjoy serving in my church and have led a career transition ministry for the past 4 years. God built “That Job Guy” for a reason and I am thankful to be able to serve Him.
Hey Dave!
Not sure if you remember me from my Riverpoint days. Just checked out your That Job Guy website for the first time. Looks great! It was great to hear you boldly proclaim Christ there too.
I also came across your link to the career transition ministry and therein I read you June 9 post about your “sister” and her battle with breast cancer. My Mom is a BC survivor too. But I felt compelled to write because cancer is on my mind an awful lot lately. I have a close cousin in Edmonton who is my age and apparently has not been given much time to live. He and I have been praying together and conversing by phone and email but he’s losing the strength to fight.
I don’t know why I feel compelled to tell you all this. Guess I just saw a connection with a Christian brother who has been in the same scary place that I am in now.
Take care and God bless you!
Glenn
